THE BUILDING
Originally constructed in the 14th century as part of Amsterdam's medieval city walls, the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal has a rich and fascinating history dating back to the Golden Age. In 1625, Amsterdam was at the height of its power as a center of world trade and cultural prosperity.
Until 1979, Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 162 was the headquarters of the N.V. Handelsvereeniging 'Amsterdam'. After they left for Leidseplein, Rabobank moved in. The long history of financial service providers within the building is reflected in the various vaults and monumental wall and ceiling paintings.
