* The Amstelveld is a square in the center of Amsterdam, between the Reguliersgracht, Prinsengracht and Kerkstraat, close to the Utrechtsestraat. The Amstelkerk, a predominantly wooden building, stands on the square. Its characteristic planting consists of 46 Caucasian wingnut trees.

In 1658, Amsterdam needed to expand and a long street was planned between Keizers- and Prinsengracht. Along this street came four large spaces for new churches. The street was called the Kerkstraat and one of those empty spaces became the Amstelveld.

On Mondays, there is a flower market. Antique markets are also held there. There is a café with a terrace, a children's playground with a sandbox, a bocce court and space to play soccer. A small statue of the Amsterdam folk figure Kokadorus stands along the square. (Source: Wikipedia).
